The film is a part of the City(W)rites project, which is aimed at promoting literary capitals of Europe, presented from the perspective of writers local to each specific city. The project is set to release 13 films; each selected writer will tell you about the city related to his work. Eduardo Mendoza will guide you around Barcelona, Ingo Schulze – around Berlin, Soren Ulrik Thomson – Copenhagen, John Banville – Dublin, Gonçalo Tavares – Lisbon, Peter Ackroyd – London, Antonio Gomez-Rufo – Madrid, Alfredo Bryce Echenique – Paris, Ivan Klima – Prague, Tatiana Tolstaya – Saint Petersburg, Mari Jungstedt – Stockholm. Completed films in this series will be broadcast by various European television stations including Polish Television (TVP).
The film performed by Magdalena Piekorz is the first episode of the series. Adam Zagajewski will show the literary hub of Krakow and visit his favourite places which have literary associations. He will talk about his own work and Polish literature. In the film there will be also a posthumous tribute to Czeslaw Milosz and Wislawa Szymborska, and a focus on variety of writers living in Krakow.
The film will be released in two versions: a shorter one lasting 48 minutes, intended for television broadcasting and a longer version for festivals.
The film includes cinematography by Marcin Koszalka who has won the award Kulturalne Odloty. The film was produced by Krakow Festival Office in partnership with TVP and the Book Institute. The movie is financed by the Minister of Culture and the National Heritage from the cultural programme “Promocja czytelnictwa” trying to increase readerships.
